National Lottery Awards for All England funding announcement
We are delighted to announce that the Gulab Sorkh Foundation has received the Awards for All England grant from The National Lottery Community Fund to deliver employment-focused ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes for our clients who have arrived in the UK since the overturn of ARAP rejections in October 2024.
Many of these individuals face significant language barriers that prevent them from finding work and achieving independence. With the generous support of The National Lottery, our project will equip learners with the practical English skills needed to secure and sustain employment.
Delivered in partnership with our long-standing collaborator Minerva Elite Performance (MEP), the programme offers three learning levels to suit different abilities. Classes focus on job-specific language, including interview preparation, CV writing, workplace communication, and understanding employment rights in the UK. Learners will take part in practical exercises such as mock interviews and workplace discussions to build real-world confidence.
This new phase also includes dedicated support for illiterate learners, helping them participate more fully in community life and begin their journey towards integration. Already, 27 learners have joined the 10-week course, designed for small groups to encourage participation and confidence-building. Some participants have even progressed to employment or college, a testament to the programme’s success.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund and its players for making this important work possible. Your support is helping Afghan newcomers gain confidence, find meaningful employment, and build a stable future in the UK.
